A couple of days ago I posted about our new coffee pot and how the design seemed to be a little lacking. Now that we have been using it for a few more days, there are some additional annoyances:
The filters are the basket type rather than the cone type that our old pot used. These always seem to tear when I lift them out of the basket which makes a huge mess.
Now I need to remove the whole filter basket and dump it into the trash. Since the filter basket is large, I have to lift the top off our trash can to dump it. The old filters just slid through the swinging lid.
I used to use the hose attachment on our sink to fill the pot with water. The access was right in the same area as where the coffee filter went. It was very convenient and it avoided me needing to find another container to use (I don't like to use the coffee pot).
This pot has a separate water reservoir access area with a strainer sort of top. When I try to use the sprayer the water splashes everywhere.
Now, I have to close one lid, open another and then remove the strainer plate before filling the water reservoir.
Both coffee pots do the same thing - they make coffee. We didn't add any additional functionality like grinding. We really just assumed that swapping out one coffee pot for another would be seamless.
These aren't major issues, just minor annoyances really - but it does make what was a simple process just a bit less simple.
So what you may be asking?
As a business services provider, I often make suggestions to my clients about how they can improve process and work more efficiently. This experience reminds me that making even the smallest change can have unanticipated (and negative) effects on people and process. Really understanding all aspects of a client's business and their environment is a critical step before introducing changes.
Failing to clearly define requirements and usage patterns can leave you farther behind than when you started.

I like my coffee strong. I mean really strong.
If you don't like it, I would bring it back. After all, you are going to be using it for the next couple of years, unless you throw it out the window in frustration.
(That's quoted from a UserFriendly strip)
I've often thought about the permanent filters. But I usually ball my filters up and throw them at pedestrians on the way to work.
Just kidding, my wife puts the grounds her roses.
We occasionally opt for flavored coffee but I use a wee-bit of flavored creamer to add flair.
I am getting used to the changes, I did figure out a way to add the water with the sprayer without too much trouble so that is one hurdle passed.
