Yesterday I discussed one of life's greatest guilt free pleasures - the joy of the lazy Saturday. The day we keep the schedule clear and sleep in. I had no problem admitting this publicly, even on a blog that maybe a half-dozen people may end up reading.
But today I want to talk about Guilty Pleasures, the things we are often a bit too embarrassed to admit we really like. In honor of day 2 of Na-Blah-Blah I'm ready to admit (some of) these. I fear I may lose some of my street cred but it's time to stop feeling guilty about them.
Music:
The Commodores -
Brick House &
Easy. Two very different songs but both quintessential. Brick House is and always will be a jam, while Easy is a great ballad without being too syrupy like Three Times a Lady or Still - and you have to love the distorted fuzz of that guitar solo.
Movies:
Love Actually. Really the ultimate in chick flicks but one of my favorite movies. Amazingly told with compelling story lines and fascinating characters. It's
funny and heartbreaking, and I'll watch it every time it comes on. And I'll admit to anyone that I love it.
Television:
Little House on the Prairie. The king of the manipulative feel good with a moral shows. I watch it every morning (right after The Waltons)
Books:
I don't feel guilty for anything that I have read. I just feel guilty that I don't read enough.
Grooming:
Combing my beard. I've been letting the goatee grow and have recently officially separated it from my mustache. I believe that my wife thinks it is too long, but I like it. And while I don't necessarily keep it neatly trimmed I do like it to be clean, and I find a comb does a nice job of that. It also gives me something to do at red lights (hey, at least I'm not picking my nose....)
Food: When I was a kid I had a reputation for eating a lot of ice cream, huge bowls of it. I still love it, especially the cheap chocolate stuff. I let it melt and get all mushy (not watery though). Can't do it with the Ben & Jerry's, but give me a big bowl of Jewel brand chocolate and I'm good to go.
This was a really hard list to compile - I guess I really don't feel too guilty about the stuff that I like after all.
What are some of your guilty pleasures? Fess up in the comments below...
