Are we really almost 1/3 of the way through NaBloPoMo?
In any case, let's continue the series of things for which I am thankful with something very dear to me - especially on a lazy Saturday like today - my warm fuzzy slippers.
It is starting to get chilly here in Chicago, and our kitchen has a ceramic tile floor. When I finally dragged myself out of bed this morning to head down and make coffee, I reached for my nice warm slippers to avoid the cold floor.
I have always been a big fan of slippers. My great-grandmother Nonny used to knit them for us when I was little. I used to think of the ones she made as magic slippers because they always looked too small but when you put them on they would fit perfectly. I still have a pair of green ones, I think one of the last pairs that she made, but they have now been retired and preserved.
I have gone through many a pair of replacements since then. It takes me hours to choose them, and once I do I keep them until they are shredded and in tatters.
My current pair are Totes Isotoners and I think they are just great. They are tall like high-tops and are really soft and warm. They have a hard rubber soul and are holding up well. I think I already have my next pair picked out.
Like my wife looks forward to winter and the chance to wear her sweaters, one of the things that makes winter bearable to me is curling up on the couch wearing my comfortable slippers.
I'm sometimes not the most observant person. People often lose or gain weight, change hair color, paint houses, get new cars etc.. without my noticing. But one thing I can't help but notice is the changing of the seasons from Summer to Fall, and that
