Just a few days after

Defending Mr. Lucas, I felt it was my responsibility to take advantage of the opportunity presented to me today to watch the full Star Wars saga on Cinemax. His words were so compelling, so moving, and presented such a call to action that I felt I must research and respond.
That and the fact that it was freakin' freezing here and I had absolutely no incentive to leave the comfort of my couch and the warm afghan that my wife made for me.
They were running in release order and I picked things up midway through Ep 5 - The Empire Strikes Back. I did switch away for a bit (during ep 1) to watch a movie called
Shopgirl which we really enjoyed.
As an aside,
Shopgirl is based on a novel by Steve Martin and I found it to be a poignant and thought provoking story. I've always been a fan of Steve Martin's writing and this is really first class. It's not a traditional love triangle story, it's quirky, and sometimes slow but it leaves you really thinking about the complex relationships presented.
Oh yeah, sorry for the sidetrack. I'm just finishing up ep 3 as I write this and I just have to say that I really don't understand the level of vitriol that gets thrown at the newer three films. While I agree with the general consensus that they should be viewed in order of filming, I think that they fit together very well and that any of the criticisms I hear of the newer trilogy could easily be made towards the originals.
I enjoy all of them, I stop to watch any of them pretty much whenever they shop up on my tv. The story is compelling, they are all visually stunning, the characters are interesting, and it is neat to see how pieces fit together across the series.
I know folks like the ones that Mr. Laughlin writes about - the ones who go on and on about how George ruined the series etc..
My words in response would be, shhh - I'm trying to watch the movie.

I want to see that movie, but everytime I set foot into Blockbuster I seem to pick up a case of amnesia. Perhaps writing things down would solve that.
But that would be no fun.
I really recommend Shopgirl. While I like a silly comedy as much as anyone, it is nice to see a story like this being told so skillfully and with respect for the intelligence of the audience.
Thanks for the visit and the comment.

Have you seen it?
