VoTD - SNL "****" in a box
OK - this is a bit more blue than I would usually post here but I found this to be quite possibly the funniest thing I have seen on Saturday Night Live in many years.
Was censored when live but how cool of NBC to make the uncensored version available. Interesting also that they have fought in the past to have videos removed from youtube but seem to now be embracing it for this release.
Anyway - click the link to watch the video - and enjoy
oh - and the song is likely not work safe so watch your sound...

How Cool is this... - Free The Music Continued...
Saturday 12-9 Gov't Mule at The Riviera Theater in Chicago. We got there nice and early and snagged a great spot behind the first railing - slightly stage left.
Opener was Donovan Frankenreiter, who I had never heard of, but really enjoyed. An interesting mix of 70s singer songwriter, funk, and some spacey jams - I definitely need to look him up further.
Then on to the main attraction. Warren and the boys took the stage and proceeded to delight the crowd with a good mix of new songs and some classics. The usual 2 sets with a short break between. Warren ignored the slide the entire first set but more than made up for it during the second. The show was unusually shy of covers - only a great 32/20 and the Mountain Jam bit that has become customary during Game Face. In fact, the intro back into Game Face was such a blowout it caused a power failure. A brief Pow(wow)er Failure Drum Jam and things fortunately got restored. A thorazine finished the show and we were treated to a very nice reggae soulshine for an encore. When Warren kicked in the solo at the end, it truly was one of those great concert moments that makes the live shows so attractive.
So what does this have to do with Free The Music?

Free the Music...
I am a big fan of live music. I love going to concerts and really enjoy listening to the spontaneous creation of art. I try to support artists that allow the taping and trading of their concerts and really believe that the community that builds around this exchange just strengthens and enhances the fan base - at least that has been my experience.
Back in the old days - I used to frequent some record stores that sold bootlegs. Usually low quality crap taped with handheld recorders from under a coat - true stealth recordings. Sound was muddy but it was a chance to hear vintage recordings.
Nowadays, taper friendly bands allow folks to bring in recording gear and capture high quality copies of their concerts. Rather than the old stealth recordings, these are often great quality and really capture the concert in all of its glory. Continue reading "Free the Music..." »

Do you like live music?
So I can't really say too much but I've been involved in a really cool project over the last few months that will change the way you get live music. If you are an experienced DBA or PHP Coder and are interested in participating - let me know.

VoTD - Amazing Stop Motion Video
Going to jump away from the musical themes for at least today to share an amazing stop motion video I found. Like the lego project, I just don't know how people have the patience to put something like this together - but I sure am impressed when they do it.
