Fish Heads

This classic Barnes & Barnes tune came up in conversation this evening while watching Iron Chef. For me, it brought back tons of memories of late night listens to Dr. Demento on The Loop (the old good loop, not the crappy new loop) while growing up.

One of the Barnes brothers is none other than Bill Mumy of Lost In Space fame.

And for those not familiar with Dr. Demento, I recommend taking some time to go through his official website. You have no idea what you missed.

Fish Heads, Dr. Demento! Ahhhh memories of childhood: "They're Coming to Take Me Away", and "Vatican Rag", "National Brotherhood Week," "Cocktails For Two" by Spike Jones!!! Is he still around? I'll have to check out the site.

I guess it is still on in some markets, I haven't listened in years though. So many classic songs like the ones you mentioned - and really the only outlet for a lot of them at the time.

I miss Dr. Demento, since I have NO idea where to listen these days. I used to listen every Sunday night, and Fish Heads is a favorite, along with "The Scotsman" and "WeT Dream" and..oh hell..I love just about every song he featured. It's where I first heard Weird Al, too!'

I think it's so cool that everyone has a memory of him and a couple of songs that jump right to mind. Where else could you have hard such things?

Weird Al owes his career to Dr. Demento.

I really want to dig through the archives there - even just looking for the video was great fun.
