So I found out earlier that I won a very cool contest that my new bass playing friend Carol ran over at her blog. I'm not sure if I found Carol through Entrecard before I dropped the widget or through the Music Memoirs lists, but in any case hers is a great blog filled with a lot of music related stuff and is among my daily reads.
Carol is currently running a series of posts that comprise an interview that she did with the incomparable Carol Kaye. For those not in the know, Carol Kaye is really the premier studio bass player, appearing on well over 10,000 recordings including the amazing Beach Boys Pet Sounds sessions. So Carol (the blogger) was having a contest in honor of this interview and it turns out I was chosen from those who had a correct guess to receive an autographed copy of a very cool release of hers called Guitars '65.
You know, I thought I was smart for knowing who Carol Kaye was and being able to answer the contest question, but I never knew she started as a guitar player. I did a quick search on youtube and found this really cool video of her playing with George Benson at NAMM in 2006. After I picked up my jaw, I figured I would share it with you here:
So thanks to Carol (from she-lives) for running the contest and publishing such a great interview, and to Carol Kaye for sending along the extra autographed CD for the contest. It is a treasure I will proudly add to my collection of musical memorabilia.
Carol also posted a great clip from a documentary called "The First Lady of Bass" which looks just great.

Actually, it's an autographed photo and a CD. My confusion. You're going to have to tell me which CD you want, though.
