Despite my family always telling me the reason they don't read my blog is because it is too technical, I really don't think I write about computers and the the stuff that I do in my job here very often.
That doesn't mean that I'm not obsessed with reading about those things though.
Today's featured blog is one of many that I read that helps fuel that need. Authored by Microsoft employee Steve Clayton, Geek in Disguise offers up a personal glimpse into the world of MS.
There is no shortage of information available from Microsoft on their products and services, and that's not really what I look to get from Geek. Sure, Steve links up to that sort of thing, and it is indeed a great source of info on announcements and such.
But what makes this such a good read is that it is obviously written by a guy who loves his job at Microsoft, loves the stuff that he works on there, but is also aware of how people perceive the company. Steve is just as likely to call Microsoft out on something as he is to praise them.
I wrote an article for Web Worker Daily a while back about the importance of company blogs. In it I gave kudos to Steve for being a great face for Microsoft. His personal accounts and opinions go a long way to show that the folks who work there are real people who work real hard creating things that they love. Even if you're not a fan of Microsoft, it's a great study on how to communicate with your audience, and proof positive that employee blogging can produce good results.
