Today's MuleDay brings with it a great cover of Mountain's Mississippi Queen from 1999. The Leslie West / Mountain influence on Warren and Mule is obvious so it's cool to see them pull out this old favorite for a spin.
Not my favorite Mountain song, but probably their most famous. Is there a better guitar player than Warren Haynes? I don't think so either...

A clip of how not to cover Mississippi Queen. It's Yuckey.
A clip of the original Mountain version from 1970. It's less yuckey than the Zakk Wylde, but it's still sort of a yuckey version.

Finally It's Muleday
You may recall that last week I declared each and every Friday here on My Thermos to be Muleday. This was in honor of Gov't Mule finally announcing a Chicago date for their summer tour. Fast forward a week, the presale was a bust so still no tix - MusicToday be damned.
But I still love this band - so let's get on with the jammage:
Wednesday night the Jammy Awards were awarded in New York. The Jammys recognize artists and performances in the Jam Band community and this year Gov't Mule won for Best Live Performance (which is no surprise to me, or anyone who has seen them really)
The winning performance was their set at the Bonnaroo Festival which was star studded and featured John Paul Jones of Zeppelin fame on a couple of tracks to round out the evening. I wasn't there but it was a scorcher - the tapes prove it.
Unfortunately the video isn't quite as good so the best I can find is this clip from way way in the back. Maybe it will make you feel like you were there. So here goes Gov't Mule / John Paul Jones w/ Since I've Been Loving You:
Enjoy - and happy weekend.
