I've ignored the Musical Meme Mistress for too long so here is her mission from yesterday.
Its time for a fun little game of 5 and 10
Pick 10 of your favorite artists and list 5 songs they do that you like:
This seems like a great way to introduce any new readers to my Build Your Own Best Of (BYOBO) series - in it I pick an artist and list 10-15 songs that would appear on their best of release.
These aren't greatest hits, and I sometimes get a lot of grief about what I don't include, but I make no apologies. Feel free to add your thoughts to the comments.
So here goes - Click the artist name to get to the full list:
Peter Gabriel
"A Wonderful Day In A One Way World" - Peter Gabriel (2)
"The Drop" - Up
"Family Snapshot" - Peter Gabriel (3)
"Here Comes The Flood" - Peter Gabriel (1)
"Home Sweet Home" - Peter Gabriel (2)

Tuesday Tunes
This week's topic is of no interest to me so I figured I would go ahead and do the word association I missed last week. Thought I would throw in some video links as well.
Go ahead and click through to them - they are quite good.

Dark: "Beware of Darkness" - George Harrison
Job: "Get a Job" - The Silhouettes
Cat: "Cat People" - David Bowie
Silence: "In That Quiet Earth" - Genesis

Tuesday Tunes: Week 65
I know it's not Tuesday. Why not use your imagination and just pretend it is.
The mission from our Music Memoirs friends this week:
A little something different.
I'm going to give you a list of drinks and you give me a song/album/artist that fits that particular drink:
Espresso: "Espresso Love" - Dire Straits
Wine: "Tastes Like Wine" - Gov't Mule
Beer: "Warm Beer & Cold Women" - Tom Waits
Milk: Milk & Honey (LP) - John Lennon / Yoko Ono
Water: "Gimme Some Water" - Eddie Money
Tea: "English Tea" - Paul McCartney
Cappuccino: The Cappuccino Kid - Not a song but the mysterious sleeve note writer for The Style Council.
Margarita: "Margarita" - Traveling Wilburys
OK - I know it's not much of a post but I wanted you to know that haven't forgotten either of my loyal readers.
What would you have picked? No need to mention margaritaville...
Cheers!

It's a word association from our Music Memoirs friends this week:
Holly: Not Fade Away - The Crickets
Tree: Little Willow - Paul McCartney
Hug: Hold Me Tight - The Beatles
Ice: The Thin Ice - Pink Floyd

Take: Take Me Back to Chicago - Chicago
Try: Try Me - UFO
Drink: Picasso's Last Words (Drink to Me) - Paul McCartney & Wings
Party: Garden Party - Marillion

So I see I went a bit heavy on the Macca this week with 2 choices from the outstanding and underappreciated Flaming Pie - but it's my blog so I can do that.
What did you pick?

Tuesday Tunes: Week 61
Our Meme Mistress at Music Memoirs must be in hibernation mode as the cold weather takes over, as our task today centers around things sleep related.
What music do you listen to when you want to go to sleep?
I used to fall asleep to music when I was younger but I don't any longer. Actually, we don't even keep the tv on so I've gotten used to it being quiet.
Back in the day though, I used to listen to stuff like Genesis and Floyd, or Keith Jarret's Köln Concert was a favorite.
What music bores you so much you think that it could put you to sleep?
If music isn't engaging in some way it doesn't become inaudible, it becomes distracting. Only when there is familiarity and appreciation can I let myself sleep to music.
What music is guaranteed to keep you wide awake?
Anything with a techno or dance beat - it raises my heart rate and really is anti-relaxing.
And just because this was too easy, here are a couple of my favorite songs about sleep:
The Beatles - I'm So Tired
The Beatles - I'm Only Sleeping
Warren Zevon - I'll Sleep When I'm Dead
The Kinks - Sleepwalker
Genesis - Unquiet Slumber for the Sleepers... In That Quiet Earth
Cheers!

Tuesday Tunes - Week 59
This week we get a Thankful Theme from our friends at Music Memoirs
Our Mission is twofold:
What musical things are you the most thankful for?
Guitars. I love guitars. I love the way they sound. I love the way they look. I love the way they feel. Acoustic, electric, 6 string, 12 string, nylon string, it don't matter to me. An amateur (like me) can play some songs, a master can make it sing or cry.
If you could say thanks to one artist/band who would it be and why?
As much as I love, respect and admire a lot of other artists, I'm going to have to go with The Beatles. Simply put, The Beatles made me love music, and are responsible for me being the music fan I am today. No other artist has had that same level of influence on me, and if you know me, you know that is saying a lot.

Wave: The Wild Wild Sea - Sting
Sand: Cowgirl In The Sand - Neil Young
Sail: Sail Away - Randy Newman
Navy: You're A Soldier - Husker Du
Deep: Banks Of The Deep End - Gov't Mule
Cheers!
